Description of WatershedThe Lower-Bear – Malad Watershed is mostly in the eastern side of Box Elder County Utah and also includes land in Oneida County, Idaho (48%). Producers in the area raise specialty crops, including vegetables, fruit, berries, turf, native grass seed, and mint. The watershed includes some areas with medium density population and areas of forest and wetland. The farmland includes some of the most highly productive land in the State of Utah. As the metropolitan areas are getting filled with homes and industry, the southern part of this watershed is becoming the area where urbanization is expanding. The watershed contains 749,057 acres that includes irrigated cropland, dry cropland, rangeland, orchards, dairy operations, sheep operations, beef operations, hog operations, with forest, pasture, and riparian areas. There are 307 farms totaling 291,633 acres, 36,009 acres of which are in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP). This is also an internationally important waterfowl migration area. Several duck clubs provide waterfowl and migratory bird habitat as well as the USFWS Bear River Bird Refuge, and Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Salt Creek Wildlife Refuge. Recreational activities include camping, bird watching, water sports, and hunting. Land Cover/UseCropland 102,200 acres These documents require
